The Baħrija Foundation is currently in the process of formal establishment as an independent, public-purpose entity dedicated to transitioning Malta’s largest Bronze Age settlement from vulnerability into a safeguarded national landmark.

Situated across an extraordinary 80,000-square-metre naturally fortified plateau, the Foundation aims to protect this prehistoric sanctuary, unearth its hidden narrative, and secure its permanent preservation for generations to come.

Created to address decades of site vulnerability, the Foundation brings professional governance, conservation expertise, and financial sustainability to place the plateau under permanent, unified stewardship.

Our core commitments are:

  • Unified Stewardship - Consolidating land titles to halt fragmentation and establish professional, perimeter-wide site security.

  • Scientific Excellence - Partnering with the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage to fund systematic excavations.

  • Managed Public Access - Restoring historic structures into a low-impact visitor hub, delivering guided educational experiences that respect the site’s ecological and physical carrying capacity.

  • Reinvestment Ethos - Ring-fencing all operational surpluses exclusively for the site’s long-term conservation, research, and scientific exploration.
